IG24 – Initiative für Gerechtigkeit in der Personenbetreuung in Österreich (Initiative for justice in personal care in Austria) is an organisation of self‑organised migrant care workers in Austria.
In the “Voices from the Field” series, it offers a testimony that brings forward the lived realities of those sustaining live‑in care. Their contribution highlights counselling work, advocacy on precarious labour conditions, and efforts to reshape a system that “enables grave breaches of labour law and human dignity”.
From their vantage point as an informal union, they stress the need to empower workers and integrate their perspective into long‑term care research. The testimony also reflects on shifts observed during project workshops, shaped by voices with direct experience of care work.
