Celebrating the UN’s International Day of Care and Support… LeTs-Care researchers at the GOLTC webinar “Changing the Narrative on Long-Term Care”

On Nov. 28th, 2025, the Global Observatory of Long-Term Care (GOLTC) organised the webinar “Changing the Narrative on Long-Term Care”, to celebrate the UN International Day of Care and Support. The conversations that animated the event tackled some of the most persistent myths that continue to hold back progress in LTC. Misconceptions about the “cost” of care, the value of care work, and deeply rooted biases linked to age, disability and gender still shape public debates and, too often, stand in the way of ambitious, people-centred policy reform.

The shared evidence-based reframings recognise what care truly represents: an essential pillar of social well-being, economic resilience and human dignity, embracing all regardless of age, health or support needs. Also, those who provide care, paid or unpaid, deserve recognition, decent working conditions and adequate support.

The LeTs-Care project team is especially proud of the powerful insights shared today by Barbara Da Roit (University of Venice Ca’ Foscari), who contributed to the reflections on why LTC jobs are skilled and profoundly meaningful professions, and Roberta Perna (CSIC-PPI), who reminded us that it is far more unsustainable not to invest in Long-Term Care.

These contributions strengthen our collective effort to foster better understanding, better policies and better lives across Countries, all around the world.
